Windows Memory Diagnostic Utility

Windows Memory Diagnostic- a program which tests the Random Access Memory (RAM) on a computer for errors. It will determine whether the problems are caused by failing hardware, such as RAM or the memory system of the motherboard. If Windows Memory Diagnostic reports any errors, then one or more memory components is failing ie. the memory modules on the ram chips or the memory modules on the Mainboard.
Installation
Windows memory diagnostic needs to be installed on a floppy or a cdrom.
Execute the downloaded file, mtinst.exe, and choose the options,
Create Startup Disk or Save CD image to disk.

1. Create Startup Disk
This will create a bootable floppy disk.
Place a newly formatted diskette into the floppy drive and select Create Startup Disk. When the creation is completed, restart the computer.
On most computers the default boot sequence starts with the floppy drive.
If the computer does not start from the floppy disk, restart the computer and reset the bios to enable boot priority to boot floppy drive as first boot device.
2. Save CD image to disk.
The saved file is windiag.iso. Burn this file to an empty cd-r media.
Using Nero burning, this file must be recorded using the burn image option.
There is a program made available by Microsoft, cdburn.exe, as part of the
Windows Server 2003 Resource Kit Tools that can record iso file to Cd-R.
Instructions for downloading and installing these tools are available at the Microsoft Web site(http://www.microsoft.com/).
Direct link- http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?LinkID=16544.
Instructions for using Cdburn.exe are included in the download package.
The resulting cd is a bootable cd.
Insert the cd and restart the computer.
Ensure that the bios is set to boot from CD.

Running the program
Once started, the program will proceed to test the rams in passes of 6 tests.
The test will continue to run until the program is paused or user exit the program.
If the program does not find any errors on the first pass, then the rams are good.
